The Riverside Quilters of Gordon Howard Centre are key members and loyal supporters of Project Linus - Canada, making blankets for children who are seriously ill, traumatized or in an otherwise difficult situation.

Project Linus - Selkirk Chapter’s 30+ volunteers made and donated 660 blankets in 2024 and have already distributed 217 blankets in 2025 as of February 26. Knitted or crocheted afghans, quilts and fleece blankets are provided to community partners in Selkirk & the surrounding areas, as well as Winnipeg, who then distribute the blankets to the children. The blanket is theirs to keep and hopefully makes their day a little brighter.

The Gordon Howard Centre generously supports Project Linus by partnering on fund-raising efforts, providing blanket storage space and accepting donations of fabric and yarn from the community on their behalf. Project Linus - Selkirk Chapter has also been fortunate to receive grants from the House of Economy Community Group and the Selkirk & District Community Foundation. These funds help to purchase much needed blanket-making supplies, particularly those not typically donated, such as quilt batting, fleece, etc.

When not working on Project Linus quilts, the Riverside Quilters also work on ‘touch quilts’ for the Alzheimer Society. Due to limited space, the Riverside Quilters group at Gordon Howard is presently full, but names can be entered on a wait list.
